Henry Richard (1812–88)

Welsh clergyman and politician. Worked as a draper’s apprentice and assistant in Aberystwyth. Entered Highbury College, Middlesex, to train for the ministry, 1830. Ordained 1835. Congregationalist pastor of Marlborough Chapel, 1835–48. Secretary of the Peace Society, from 1848. MP for Merthyr Tudful, 1868–88, supporting various Welsh causes.
