Edward Strutt, 1st Baron Belper (1801–80)

Polititian. Son of William Strutt. BA, Cambridge, 1823. Studied law at Lincoln’s Inn and the Inner Temple but was not called to the bar. MP for Derby, 1830–47; for Arundel, 1851; for Nottingham 1852–6. Created Baron Belper of Belper, Derbyshire, 1856. Honorary LLD, Cambridge, 1862. President, University College, London, 1871–9. FRS 1860.
