William Strutt (1756–1830)

Cotton manufacturer and inventor. Architect of fireproof buildings, engineer of water power and transmission, of textile machinery, and of heating. Designed the Derby Infirmary’s heating and ventilation system. Founder member of the Derby Philosophical Society; president, 1802. FRS 1817.
