Edwin Abbott Abbott (1838–1926)

Headmaster and writer. Educated at the City of London School and St John’s College, Cambridge. Ordained deacon, 1862; priest, 1863. Taught at King Edward’s School, Birmingham, and Clifton College. Headmaster of the City of London School, 1865–89. Introduced the natural sciences and English literature into the school curriculum. Author of several works, including the novel Flatland, published in 1884 under the pseudonym A Square.
