Frederick George Ravenhill (1832/3–95)

Army officer. Served in the Royal Artillery. Gentleman cadet, 1847; captain, 1867, major, 1872, lieutenant-colonel, 1877, major-general, 1893. From 1882 on half pay as inspector and purchaser of horses; moved to the Remount Establishment in 1891. Retired in 1894. Originator of the Horse Registration Scheme and the Remount Department.
