Georg Hermann (Georg) Quincke (1834–1924)

German physicist. PhD, Berlin, 1858; habilitated, 1859. Professor of physics, Würzburg, 1872; Heidelberg, 1875–1907. Worked on optical and magnetic anisotropy in colloid systems and devised several experimental instruments. Was the first to observe the streaming current and streaming potential in colloids. Foreign member, Royal Society of London, 1879.
