Publisher, writer, and geologist. Partner, with his brother William Chambers (ODNB), in the Edinburgh publishing company W. & R. Chambers. Joint editor of Chambers’s Edinburgh Journal from 1832. Anonymous author of Vestiges of the natural history of creation (1844).
