Arthur Maw (1834–1911)

Tile maufacturer. Younger brother of George Maw, with whom he established the encaustic tile company Maw & Co., in Broseley, Shropshire, in 1850. Factory premises in Benthall, Shropshire, opened 1852 Company’s work took first-class prizes at international exhibitions from 1862 onwards. Author of the article ‘Encaustic tiles’ for the ninth edition of the Encyclopaedia Britannica (1875–89).
