Adelbert von Chamisso (1781–1838)

French-born poet and botanist whose family fled to Germany during the French Revolution. Member of the expedition to the Pacific under Otto von Kotzebue, 1815–18. Adjunct curator of the botanical gardens, Berlin, 1819; curator, 1833.
