William Chimmo (1828–91)

Naval officer. Entered the Royal Navy in 1841; lieutenant, 1850, commander, 1864. Secretary to the hydrographer of the Admiralty, 1856–8. Worked on the hydrographic survey, and published several papers on deep-sea soundings in the Atlantic. Fellow of the Linnean, Royal Geographical, Meteorological, and Astronomical Societies.
