Alexander Michie (1833–1902)

Scottish writer on China. Half-brother of George Thin (1838–1903) and Robert Thin (1843–67), physicians in Shanghai. Employed by Lindsay & Co., merchants, in Hong Kong, 1853; their representative in Shanghai, 1857. Later employed by Jardine, Matheson & Co. Accompanied Robert Swinhoe on an expedition to western China in 1869. A frequent contributor to journals and magazines, and a correspondent for The Times.
