Richard Cobden (1804–65)

Manufacturer and politician. Leading member of the Anti-Corn Law League, 1838–46. MP for Stockport, 1841–7; for West Riding, Yorkshire, 1847–57; for Rochdale, 1859–65. Vocal advocate for free trade and for non-intervention.
