Mr Thomas William Bland (4 October 1809–20 August 1885)

British malacologist. Born in Newark, Nottinghamshire and educated at Charterhouse School, London. Published in the American Journal of Conchology, especially on land and freshwater snails of North America and the West Indies. From 1842 - 1849 he lived and collected on Barbados where he conducted the first molluscan survey there. After a brief return to England, in 1852 he moved to New York City where he lived until his death. Bland's collections were distributed to the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, the British Museum (Natural History) and the Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University.
