Mr Wilfrid Scawen Blunt (17 August 1840–10 September 1922)

British poet, horse breeder and political essayist. The son of landowners in southern England, he was born at Petworth House in Sussex. He served in the Diplomatic Service for 11 years in Europe and South America. His religious faith was shaken by Darwin's theories of evolution by natural selection. Known for his anti-Imperialist politics and was jailed in 1888 for three months in Ireland for supporting Irish home-rule. In 1869 he married the granddaughter of Lord Byron, Lady Anne Noel, although he was something of a philanderer and had numerous affairs. Blunt spent considerable time living in Egypt and bred Arabian horses. He died in England aged 82.
