Mr Charles Hedley (27 February 1862–14 September 1926)

A naturalist born in Yorkshire, Hedley travelled in New Zealand and Australia before making Sydney his home in 1882. Employed at the Australian Museum in April 1891 in charge of land shells; made a conchologist around 1896. Became assistant curator of the museum in 1908 and in 1920 became principal keeper of the collections. He resigned in 1925 to become scientific director of the Great Barrier Reef Investigation Committee. Taken from Wikipedia page of Charles Hedley 31.10.2011.
