Sir Arthur Blyth (19 March 1823–7 December 1891)

British born, South Australian Premier. Born in Birmingham, England, he moved with his parents and brother to Australia at the age of 16. In Australia his family invested in land and became wealthy. On 5 March 1850 he married Jessie Ann Forrest. In 1855 he was elected to the South Australia legislative council and subsequently served many years in public office including as South Australia Premier on three occasions between 1864 and 1875. Blyth was a member of the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia and its President from 1867-68. Blyth returned to England to take up the post of South Australian agent-general in 1877 and was knighted in the same year. He held this post until his death at home in Eastbourne, England in 1891. Jessie, his widow, survived him by only two weeks.
