Mr William Hadden Beeby (9 June 1849–4 January 1910)

British botanist. Born in London, the only son of William John and Elizabeth Beeby. He left school at a young age and worked first with his uncle, then for the Union Discount Company of London, and later worked as a cashier at the Bank of Tarapaca and London until his retirement in June 1909. In 1878 he became a member of the Botanical Sub-committee of the Croydon Natural History and Scientific Society (then Croydon Microscopical and Natural History Club). On 5 May 1887 he was elected an Associate of the Linnean Society and became a Fellow on 5 June 1890. In 1892 Beeby married Florence Emma Hardcastle. He was involved for many years in the preparation of a Flora of Surrey, visiting the less known and more unpromising parts of the county making exhaustive lists of plants. His plant collections from Surrey and Shetland were at his request sent to the museum founded by A O Hume.
