On Beagle voyage CD believed in permanence of species. Had occasional vague doubts. In autumn of 1836 saw how many facts indicated common descent of species. In 1837 opened notebook to record facts.
CD has sent the pig’s foot to William Henry Flower to examine.
Further discussion of structure of abnormal pig’s foot.
Doesn’t know anything about the insects in question, but has sent the photographs on to an expert in London.
