The Charles Darwin Collection
The Darwin Correspondence Project is publishing letters written by and to the naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–1882). Complete transcripts of letters are being made available through the Project’s website (www.darwinproject.ac.uk) after publication in the ongoing print edition of The Correspondence of Charles Darwin (Cambridge University Press 1985–). Thanks for essay [Cras credemus: a treatise on the cultivation of the potato from the seed, having for proposed results the extinction of the disease (1876)] and seeds. Thinks principle on which JT is acting is right.
Cannot allow publication of his earlier letter [10368], as he cannot recall what he wrote.
JT may publish CD’s letter.
Gives advice on breeding of blight-resistant potatoes.
Does not think that publishing his letters as advertisement [for potato experiments] would help JT’s cause, so CD cannot give permission.
