Has just seen his letter [apparently requesting an article on mineralogy for the Admiralty Manual] on returning to his office. Is very busy at the moment with a survey of coal for George Eden (Earl of Auckland), but could probably help, given time.
It appears that Mineralogy has been assigned to him in the new manual. Comments on this and would like to know who will be writing the chapter on Geology as it is likely to overlap.
Sending him the material on mineralogy for the new manual. Comments on the difficulty of writing this sort of work and gives an outline of how he has written it.
May alter his own article on mineralogy as he pleases.
Returning the proofs of his article for the Admiralty Manual. 25 copies will be enough for him.
Would he look at the accompanying work by O. P. A. P. Dufrénoy. Feels that Dufrénoy would advocate only that which was right.
