Informs CH of his wife's pregnancy; will name the child Caroline if a girl. Reports of repairs on Slough.
Hears he is at Dudmaston. Has a brother-in-law who will shortly be travelling to India and would like suggestions of books and instruments for him to take. Also letter of introduction to Edward Ryan.
Will be unable to attend the Council Meeting of the Astronomical Society. Gives his views on accommodation for the Astronomical Society at Somerset House. J. Soldner's tables. Will send for G. B. Airy's parcel.
Received his letter of the 17th today. Does not think he can change his mind about resigning from the council.
His library is in chaos at the moment due to house decoration, so he is unable to lay his hands on the note about Eilhard Mitscherlich. Gives a long survey of the work of Mitscherlich and states why in his opinion he should receive a medal.
