The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Does not use tables for rough and ready work, but backs his tables against the slide rule. Thanks for the dialogue ['On Atoms']. Regarding blind atoms.
Ferry delayed by 19 July hurricane. Studying classical granite veins in Glen Tilt under [J. D.] Forbes's tutelage. Not disturbed by cost overrun of JH's catalogue of nebulae, but sorry that JH is 'so much vexed.' Simply tell R.S.L. committee that JH needs more money; do not worry about scruples.
Proposes continuing work on JH's [Catalogue of] Nebulae, and not worrying about funding. Gives details of money and time spent so far. Work is about half done.
Still searching for journal of WP's observations. Notes on micrometer used in measuring nebulae positions. WP's assistants are not qualified to make new measurements.
Positions of new comet, calculated from 'Florence observations.'
Forwarded JH's request for additional £16 [to publish map of nebulae] to [R.S.L. secretaries] William Sharpey and G. G. Stokes. Expects approval.

Sends Lady K. B. Kane's Dublin address. Describes former residence and neighborhood of Elizabeth Baily. EW's husband [Walpole] returned from Yorkshire Monday.
Regarding a purported relation of Caroline Herschel and her right to any property.
