Visited Langton family. Visitors at Slough. Elizabeth Langton is staying with MH. Hopes to make peace between Elizabeth and her cousins. JH's rooms 'over the way' are almost finished. Still grieving for William Herschel. Concerned at not hearing from JH's aunt.
Following the death of JH's father, William, JDH comments on Caroline Herschel's arrival in Hanover, and expresses his concern about the situation of JH's mother.
Thanks Herschel family for aid given to care for Hannah Scull, a disabled orphan in the care of the Parrys. Details process of getting legal permission to find a permanent home for the child.
Is extremely sorry to hear the news of the death of William Herschel. Regarding F. W. Bessel's polar distances in relation to his own, and possible reasons for their difference. Has been working on the Greenwich observations.
Returning sincere thanks for the memorial inscribed with the name of JH's illustrious father. It rests with JH and his companions how posterity will judge the present age.
