The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Regrets he should have felt so much anxiety about Maria (HH's wife and JH's daughter), but she is progressing well. Have settled down well in their new house.
Letter of general adulation.
Did not intend to trouble him with his proofs, but as he has cited JH in the chapter dealing with the astronomical effect on climate he sends proofs for this chapter. Would like to quote JH's two letters on the subject. The whole book is set up and hopes to send the volume in November.
Was pleased to get his twelve pages of slips returned this morning. In one he proposes an alteration of 3% instead of 1003 to 1000. Which is correct?
Is grateful for JH's translation of Homer, which he values. Regrets to see JH's son so fatigued.
As directed by Meteorological Committee, HB sends report on 1864 Calcutta cyclone.
Resolution reappointing JH and others to committee to persuade Russian government to establish magnetic observatory at Tiflis [Tbilisi, Georgia] under direction of Prof. [?] Moritz.
Trying to ascertain the time for the eclipse of Jupiter's satellites. Wants to know the proper correction for his own telescope.
Thanks for correcting proof sheets. Discusses JH's and [William] Grove's views on correlating physical forces. Tends to trust JH's views.
Wonders if mathematical result recently presented by [J. A.] Serret was published many years ago by JH. Comments on recurrence of identical problems in mathematical study.
Would like account of shooting stars by JH's son [Alexander]. Gives his observations on the properties of shooting stars.
Observations on a new variable star [T Coronae]. Enquiry regarding one of JH's observations.
