Is pleased that JH approves of the photographs. Previously purchased W. H. Smyth's equatorial, the tube and object-glass made by [Thomas?] Cooke. Had a visit from Smyth recently and he advised WM to prepare a paper for the R.A.S.
Thanks JH for advice on several persons and for suggestion concerning the Leviathan. Remarks on R. C. Carrington's circumpolar star work. Writes to R.S.L. Council concerning François Arago's nomination for medal.
Leviathan successfully launched. Forwards papers from W. H. Smyth. Congratulates JH on coming 'happy event' [marriage of Margaret Herschel].
Regarding a suitable engraving of William Herschel to be added to William Walker's engraving of a meeting at the Royal Institution.
Is grateful for the copies of his essays, which he treasures. Hopes his anxiety for his son in India will be groundless.
Has finished his essay and returns to the subject of gold. Cites articles.
Has the proofs. Gives some queries concerning them.
S. J. Loyd (1st Baron Overstone) has agreed that the papers be presented to the Crown. Pray let him have his proof as soon as possible.
Write to Mr. Richerly for as many as he wants. Has sent proof to George Peacock; might send one to the Dean of Salisbury. County persons are capital people for their purposes.
