The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.
Further information about Herschel, his correspondence, and the editorial method is available online here: http://historydb.adlerplanetarium.org/herschel/?p=intro
No texts of Herschel’s letters are currently available through Ɛpsilon.

Copy of Mr. Stewart's note to JH was sent to Baldwin Walker, surveyor of Navy, to evaluate new 'stopper' it recommended. Returns original to JH.
Forwards a letter to JH from Thomas Maclear, and FB comments on several accidents that have occurred at the Cape.
Sends a note to JH that William Lassell [may use as a letter of introduction to the Governor of Malta]. FB hopes that Lassell will determine the longitude of Malta.
Indicates that trials have been made with a 'trumpeted cannon,' and JH is welcome to request further trials to be made at Woolwich Arsenal.
Asks JH for a copy of his Cape Results to be provided to the new Queen's College at Belfast.
A response to JH's actions in seeking a position for [?] Taylor.
Encloses recently received letters and a geological map. Shall he send it to Harley St.? There is a strong possibility that the Cape will get a transit circle. William Simms has a good object glass; does JH know anything about it?
Is pleased to inform him that the Admiralty has ordered a transit circle for the Cape.
Encloses a letter from Thomas Maclear regarding the resignation of his assistant, George Childe. Would like JH's opinion on the appointment of Maclear's sons to succeed Childe.
Thinks that a note must have miscarried as he is sure he informed him that the Admiralty had appointed Thomas Maclear's son [George Maclear] an assistant at the Cape and his other son [John Maclear] to a ship.
