The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

James Hayday is recommended as best bookbinder [for Cape Results]. Explanation of how to bind copies for royal patrons. Encloses list of eleven royal recipients and Hayday's address. What shall AP do with JH's correspondence with late Hugh Percy?
AP's name should not appear in dedication of JH's Cape Results. Consulted friend; awaiting reply. But will accept whatever JH wishes.

Sent copies [of JH's Cape Results] to royal sovereigns in seven nations. Encloses letter from Russian ambassador, F. I. Brunnov. Agrees with JH about 'large Commission' on account for publishers Smith, Elder & Co. AP owes letter to former U.S. minister Edward Everett in Boston; will send [Cape Results] with it.
Sending last Royal copy [of JH's Cape Results] today. Edward Everett's copy goes soon. Suggests sending copy to Prof. Robinson of New York.
Delighted that JH was awarded Gold Medal by King of Holland [for Cape Results].
Congratulations on success [of JH's Cape Results], and happy new year. Encloses letter from Austrian ambassador with Emperor's testimonial to JH.
