The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Hopes to prepare necessary papers before Privy Council meets tomorrow.
Edward Enfield postponed decision until Moneyers' contract is settled. HH will forward G. F. G. Mathison's letter to Treasury and arrange for leasing refinery.
Needs JH's signature for Mint letters. Needs copy of a statement by G. F. G. Mathison.
Order [for Mint reform] has arrived from [Privy] Council. Royal warrant will follow soon.
Jasper Atkinson refuses to take charge of the Coining Room. HH believes that Moneyers intend to subvert Mint reforms. Hopes to recruit Captain [Turner] for this Coining Room.
Letters from Treasury and from JH were sent to five Moneyers. Two notes were also sent to Edward Enfield and Robert Rintoul.
Urges JH to advertise in London papers for candidates for Chief Coiner. This would show Mint officers that 'there is no difficulty in filling vacant places quickly with efficient people.' Writes advertisement describing position and benefits.
Forwards papers from the Mint Board meeting.
JH's presence is not necessary today. Encloses letter from G. F. G. Mathison.
Sends proposed letter expressing regret that Henry Bingley refuses to accept the office of resident Assayer. Will arrange meeting with Mr. Blake. Received two testimonials for William Buckle.
