The Charles Darwin Collection
The Darwin Correspondence Project is publishing letters written by and to the naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–1882). Complete transcripts of letters are being made available through the Project’s website (www.darwinproject.ac.uk) after publication in the ongoing print edition of The Correspondence of Charles Darwin (Cambridge University Press 1985–). Metadata and summaries of all known letters (c. 15,000) appear in Ɛpsilon, and the full texts of available letters can also be searched, with links to the full texts.
Has heard "sad tales" about CD’s forthcoming book [Descent]; does not think even CD can persuade him his ancestors were apes.

Will not pass through London, so will not be able to call at Down.
Is correcting proofs for Expression.
Family news.
Has not seen CD for about 25 years. Has heard an absurd story that CD and Emma are exploring an unknown part of America.
Has finished Expression.
His strength fails more and more; needs to rest every six weeks or so.
Thanks CD for a copy of Expression. Is always interested in CD’s work, but finds himself diverging from some of his leading ideas.
P.S. Has found shedding of toenails in a nephew as well.
Has been in bed for some days with ugly head symptoms. "We are a poor lot."
Has left Delamere and settled on the Isle of Wight.
Has just finished new editions of Descent
and Coral reefs.
Is working on a book almost wholly on Drosera; thinks he has made some discoveries.
Will never have strength and life to complete more of the series of books related to Origin.
Asks for living plant of Utricularia and information on Pinguicula lusitanica. Gives notes on habitats.
Will try to get certain insectivorous plants for CD, especially Utricularia. Is glad to hear he has taken up Drosera.
