The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Heard from Louisa [JH's daughter] that JH was interested to hear about the [Leeds] Literary and Philosophical Society. Gives details and recent lectures. Would be pleased for JH to give a lecture.
All are exceedingly obliged by JH's kind thought for the [Leeds] Literary and Philosophical Society. Subject JH mentions will be most interesting. Paper should not be too long. News from Ingwell most comforting.
Has been nominated Professor of Maths at the Native College and is in charge of the Observatory, now being erected. Would welcome suggestions from JH as to observations that would be useful.
Would like to visit the Mint with his family.
Mr. Chadwick, who is now RO's guest, believes that one of JH's sons is at a preparatory school near Clapham. Would welcome JH's advice on a suitable school.
Invitation to dinner next Wednesday.
Would like JH to write the obituary of François Arago for the R.S.L.
Will be pleased to officiate at wedding of JH's daughter Caroline [see JH's 1852-10-30].
