Thanks for the seventh of CVR’s Annual reports on the noxious, beneficial and other insects in the state of Missouri (Riley 1869–77).
Is staying at a friend’s [T. H. Farrer’s] house for rest until after 6 July, so cannot see CVR at Down.
Hopes he thanked CVR for the last Report [one of CVR’s Annual reports on the noxious, beneficial and other insects of the State of Missouri (1868–76)].
Thanks him for the 9th Report [on the noxious, beneficial, and other insects of the State of Missouri]. "What a pretty illustration of a sub-rudimentary organ is that of the saw-fly!"
Comments on CVR’s paper [‘Further notes on the pollination of Yucca and on Pronuba and Prodoxus’, Proc. Am. Assoc. Adv. Sci. (1880): 617–39]. ‘What an inaccurate man Mr Thomas Meehan is.’ Interested in further observations on Pronuba.
Comments on CVR’s book [Third annual report on the noxious, beneficial, and other insects of the State of Missouri (1871)].
Discusses mimetic insects.
Would be delighted to see CVR at Down, but is in precarious health and cannot talk to anyone for more than an hour.
Wrote to CVR a few weeks ago to thank him for his book [see 7794].
Will expect CVR on Thursday unless he hears otherwise.
Thanks for letter of introduction for his sons visiting America.
