The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

CT delays answering JH's letter of 3 Nov. 1851 until JH submits report on financial impact of changes in Engraving department after death of William Wyon.
What public service will L. C. Wyon render that justifies Wyon's annual salary of £400? Compares this with duties and salary of Benedetto Pistrucci. Suggests retaining Wyon at present salary of £200 and paying separately for piecework.
Grateful for JH's correction of CT's error in pension for G. F. G. Mathison [see CT's 1851-11-14]. This was CT's first such error in 25 years of public service.
G. F. G. Mathison called on CT yesterday to discuss error in Mathison's pension. Will finalize this after CT receives report from JH and Henry Rich.
Bring report by R. L. Sheil when JH and H. D. Harness visit CT to discuss amalgamation of Coining and Machinery departments. Congratulations on 'remarkable distinction' obtained by JH's son [William] at Haileybury College, CT's alma mater.

Chancellor of Exchequer [Charles Wood] will not need to discuss JH's draft of 'Estimate' until after New Year's Day.
