The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

At the recent council meeting of the R.A.S., JH was nominated as president. Is returning the letters of F. W. Bessel.
Is honored by being nominated as president but would prefer someone else as he is very busy and can ill spare the time.
Regrets that he cannot change the mind of the council of the R.A.S. over its nomination of JH as president.
Unable to see him as he has another meeting to attend. Regarding the loan of the R.A.S.'s theodolite to Thomas Maclear. Two foreign members have been proposed for the R.A.S.
Approves of the arrangements made by FB regarding the loan of the theodolite.
Will compare the standards later. Has sent the theodolite to the Admiralty and received a letter of thanks. Thomas Maclear's paper on N. L. Lacaille's star positions will be read at the next meeting of the R.A.S.
Will come up to town so that they can work on Thomas Maclear's four foot scale standard. News of the Glasgow Observatory.
Regarding the four foot scale standard of Thomas Maclear. Will be pleased to see him on Thursday. R.A.S. has had a letter from the Treasury regarding a grant for Glasgow Observatory.
Finds that he is unable to attend the Council Meeting so would FB take the chair. Business to be brought before council. Ernesto Capocci has seen a spot on the sun.
