The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

A letter from the Secretary of R. S. L. asking JH to review several papers. [Appended is a copy of JH's review in draft form.]
Reports on paper [R.S.P.T., 159,. 575-] by [Thomas] Andrews on continuity of gaseous and liquid states of matter, believing it fit for publication.
Sends [William?] Pole's paper on color blindness, in case JH wishes to examine it.
Reports on Edward Sabine's paper [R.S.P.T., 154, 227-] comparing magnetic disturbances at Kew and Nertschinsk. Makes suggestion regarding period of solar spots and other matters, but deems paper worthy of publication.
Has completed catalogue of nebulae and star clusters observed by Charles-Joseph Messier, JH's father, and JH. Requests R.S.L.'s help in 'reducing [them] to an epoch.'
Will present to R.S.L. Council JH's application for money for reducing JH's catalogue of nebulae.
R.S.L. Council voted £20 for cost of reducing JH's catalogue of nebulae.
Edward Sabine sent JH's letter to GS with instructions to forward it to William Sharpey. Sees no difficulty in proceeding.
