The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Cruel illness has kept him from work for a while. Just finished Histoire des sciences mathématique et physique chez les belges. AQ's son works with proper motion, double and multiple stars, and absolute positions.
Sends copy of G. F. J. A. von Auwers's catalog of JH's and William Herschel's nebulae. Observatory has another copy. Notes odd lines seen in 'Refraction Spectra of 11 stars.'
Refraction spectra of six stars exhibit lines corresponding with 'Solar Line F.'
Expect some errors in calculations of positions for JH's catalogue of nebulae. Suggestions on format.
Recalls translating Outlines Astr. into Chinese. Wishes to visit JH before returning to China.
Heard of JH's 'domestic affliction.' Postpones visit till next week.
