Thanks EC's for EC's observations made with EC's excellent telescope. Discusses Eta Coronae, Gamma Virginis, EC's drawing of M51, and whether Orion changes, stating that JH is 'no believer in rapid changes in Nebulae yet there may be changes....'
About observations of Halley's Comet. [In postscript dated 1836-5-3], describes further observations of the comet.
Thanks for meteorological records sent by EC, and asks for some additional information.
Thanks for observations; comments on one of his own observations; notes imminent move to Collingwood and birth of seventh child.
Comments on calculation of orbit of Gamma Virginis; requests any observations EC has of that star.
Comments on EC's observations of some nebulae and comets.
Talking about the possibility of discovering an 'Irish Asteroid' or perhaps an exterior planet; suggests names for them.
Congratulates EC on 'Thetis' [proposed name for asteroid Metis]; J. R. Hind has discovered a new star.
Congratulates EC on the first volume of Stars near the Ecliptic: JH expects never to observe again.
Returns EC's manuscript with some comments.
Offers a variety of solutions to stopping 'offensive light' during solar observations.
On the usefulness of Stephen's Writing Fluid to stop the sun's excess of light at large apertures in the telescope.
Contrasts EC's catalogue of comets with that of J. F. Encke.
Confirms measurements of a transit circle.
Would like to know where he can obtain JH's observations on double stars. His own recent observations of planets.
Should have written earlier to thank him for the useful catalogue of stars. Weather has been fine, but he is still waiting for his eye tube from William Simms. Remarks on Orion's nebulae.
Will send a corrected set of Meteorological Observations later. Has not seen the comet, but has seen many shooting stars. Family is in Paris. Will leave 'planches' of his discoveries at this house and they will be delivered to Lady Herschel.
Would like JH to pay them a visit at Markree to see his 'circle' instrument erected. Hospitality will be rough owing to their lack of furniture. Hopes he is satisfied with his own photographic results.
Not sure where JH is now residing. Sending the 13 sets of Meteorological Observations he has made. Will shortly be residing at Brighton for a few months and hopes to meet JH then. The Munich circle is a beautiful instrument.
