Has had a paper placed in his hands from an Icelandic Savant regarding drifts from Greenland. Thinks that JH may find this paper useful.

Reasons why he is unable to sign the Memorial to the bishops regarding their attitude to Essays and Reviews.

Would like a testimonial from JH as he is applying for the Professorship of Sanskrit, left vacant by the death of H. H. Wilson.

Is grateful for JH's opinion. Can hardly imagine that such a simple contrivance should answer the purpose. Saw the patent agent who has offered to send a list of all the writings on the subject. Also brought the matter before B. C. Brodie (the elder), who now seems totally blind.

The writer of the enclosed production has given lectures at SN's establishment. Introduces him to JH. Hopes to give a lecture at Hawkhurst. Would be pleased for any of the Herschel family to view the orchid house, now in full bloom.

Can JH spare a few minutes one morning as he wishes to show him an invention to overcome seasickness; would like his comments.

Will not detain JH more than half an hour; if his invention is not similar to JH's it will amuse him. Gives his reasons for seasickness. Will call tomorrow.

Since they met yesterday he has thought of a further modification in the apparatus to prevent seasickness and would like JH's opinion.

Has overcome pitch and roll with his inventions. Instrument is quite simple. What is he to do with it now?

Many thanks for JH's article on the telescope; will read it with much interest. Has employed an assistant to prepare drawings of the nebula. The six-foot reflector requires repolishing.

Has just heard a report that JH had predicted that there would be a series of heavy floods during the month of August. Wonders if this originated from JH.

Thanks for letter regarding his prediction of the floods. May be partly to blame as he did mention certain happenings that could be the result of solar phenomenon. Comments on this. If WP communicates this to a paper would like two or three copies.

Thanks for valuable and interesting letter; has sent copies to the Glossop Record and Manchester Examiner and will send copies of the papers should the letter be printed. Will be glad to know the results of his valuable observations.
