Declines WP's invitation to attend Cork B.A.A.S. meeting and afterwards to visit WP and to see his reflecting telescopes. Informs WP that [C. A. von] Steinheil had written JH about a process of 'Electro-gilding' mirrors for telescopes.
Thanks WP for sending drawings and descriptions of various nebulae observed with WP's giant reflecting telescope. Comments on various nebulae. Expresses the idea that some planetary nebulae are 'hollow elliptical or spherical shells with or without a central Star.'
Will call for JH's [Cape Results] when in London. One of WP's assistants reported ring around Neptune last winter, but WP is skeptical. Instruments idle for nine months. WP too busy with [Irish famine] relief. Wrote to T. R. Robinson to find competent assistant.

Examined the nebula of Andromeda the night before last with his three-foot instrument. Comments on his observations and the sketch made by [W. C.?] Bond. Would require several good nights to make a sketch of value.
About adjudication of R.S.L. medals.
Recommends Edward Sabine's work on terrestrial magnetism for Royal Physical Medal, and joint award of Copley Medal to WP and William Lassell for improvements in reflecting telescopes.
Discusses possible recipients of Royal Medals, continuing to favor Edward Sabine.
Invitation to dinner next Wednesday.
