The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Has forwarded four boxes of geological specimens by the Bosphorus; these are the illustrations for [Andrew] Bain's map. Peace is about to be declared in the Kaffir War. There have been several bush fires and one almost damaged Feldhausen.
Thanks for his help regarding his nephew. Hopes mild weather has not upset JH. Doubtless he has seen notes of the various observations of Saturn in R.A.S.M.N.

C. E. Trevelyan's corrections to report. Arrangement for disposing of refinery is officially ratified and may be mentioned. Include payments for Moneyers' equipment, but omit reference to standards. Trevelyan knows nothing of Benedetto Pistrucci's memorial.
Encloses recently received letters and a geological map. Shall he send it to Harley St.? There is a strong possibility that the Cape will get a transit circle. William Simms has a good object glass; does JH know anything about it?
