The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

As directed by Charles Wood, HH gave formal notice [of contract termination] to Moneyers and sent Wood's letter to G. F. G. Mathison. Forwarded JH's note to Henry Bingley.
Encloses copy of 5 Feb. 1851 letter from C. E. Trevelyan containing Treasury approval for 'part of' Mint reforms recommended by R. L. Sheil and JH. Treasury solicitors will serve notice of termination to Moneyers. HH sees difficulties if proposed changes are not all adopted simultaneously.
Forwards notices from George Maule [terminating contract with Moneyers and G. F. G. Mathison] for JH's signature. Will call meeting with Moneyers for Thursday.
Legality of reforms at Mint may be challenged if Mint indenture is treated as an obsolete document. Details of appointments of Mint officers. Recommends establishing schedule of salaries for all officers and employees.
Has read JH's letter to Charles Wood. Will notify Moneyers and George Maule.
Informed George Maule of legal complications of old Mint indenture as applied to JH. Maule's solution was similar to what JH proposed to Charles Wood. Advises against telling Edward Enfield and Robert Rintoul about difficulties. Has not yet received statement from G. F. G. Mathison.
G. F. G. Mathison wishes to consult colleagues before making a decision.
Sends proposals for Mint reform.
Royal patent and warrant for Master to coin were discovered in R. L. Sheil's cellar. These are now safely at Mint.
Forwards correspondence. Will meet JH at Chancellor of the Exchequer today.

W. T. Brande has only one recommendation for vacant position in Die department. If JH approves this person, send note to HH.
