The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Many thanks for JH's article on the telescope; will read it with much interest. Has employed an assistant to prepare drawings of the nebula. The six-foot reflector requires repolishing.
Offers assistance for JH's proposed catalogue of nebulae. Will send estimated positions of recently discovered nebulae.
Assistant Samuel Hunter will send WP's observations to JH. Original intent was to confirm JH's nebulae, but WP soon found new nebulae. Trouble finding good assistants. Note on new transit instrument.
Still searching for journal of WP's observations. Notes on micrometer used in measuring nebulae positions. WP's assistants are not qualified to make new measurements.
Encloses letter from G. J. Stoney, who had journal of WP's nebulae observations. Hopes WP's observations will be helpful for JH's proposed catalogue of nebulae.
Preparing classified index of observatory journals, but information will not be accurate enough to help JH. G. J. Stoney is too busy to help remeasure nebulae positions.
Laurence Parsons (Lord Oxmantown) has gone to Ireland to discharge his duties of High Sheriff. Sends finished proof of the engraving of Orion; comments on this. Has not worked on the nebula himself for many years. [J. K.?] Hunter was a good artist.
