The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Annual pension for G. F. G. Mathison was fixed by Chancellor of Exchequer [Charles Wood] at 'Fourteen Hundred Pounds (1200£).' JH and Henry Rich should submit formal report on this matter.
CT delays answering JH's letter of 3 Nov. 1851 until JH submits report on financial impact of changes in Engraving department after death of William Wyon.
What public service will L. C. Wyon render that justifies Wyon's annual salary of £400? Compares this with duties and salary of Benedetto Pistrucci. Suggests retaining Wyon at present salary of £200 and paying separately for piecework.
Treasury commissioners approved JH's plan to eliminate Engraving department [see JH's 1851-11-4]. Benedetto Pistrucci and L. C. Wyon will receive fixed salaries and housing allowances as nonresident modelers and engravers to Mint.
Grateful for JH's correction of CT's error in pension for G. F. G. Mathison [see CT's 1851-11-14]. This was CT's first such error in 25 years of public service.

Memorandum from Treasury's Financial Room showing quarterly installments paid to Master of Mint. Please explain unusually large expenditures. Previous Mint administrators seldom expended entire grant from Parliament as JH has done. This will be last installment until Parliament approves grant for 1852-53. CT wants JH's assurance that this installment will last until end of fiscal year [31 Mar.].

Barton, new deputy master. Please send to CT details of Brande's former salary. Wood will submit to John Russell [Prime Minister] JH's recommendation to appoint Brande's son [F. R. Brande] to position of supernumerary clerk.

[Prime Minister] John Russell approved appointment of W. T. Brande's son as supernumerary clerk in Mint. Treasury is now ready to receive JH's budget for 1852-53.
