How should JH deal with Benedetto Pistrucci's sudden and temperamental resignation [as chief medallist]?
The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.
Further information about Herschel, his correspondence, and the editorial method is available online here: http://historydb.adlerplanetarium.org/herschel/?p=intro
No texts of Herschel’s letters are currently available through Ɛpsilon.

The balances in the Mint are not adequate for the work WM wants to do.
Cannot nominate [Richard] Jones for position at Fenly. Has already given another name to the Queen.
C. E. Trevelyan's corrections to report. Arrangement for disposing of refinery is officially ratified and may be mentioned. Include payments for Moneyers' equipment, but omit reference to standards. Trevelyan knows nothing of Benedetto Pistrucci's memorial.
Encloses recently received letters and a geological map. Shall he send it to Harley St.? There is a strong possibility that the Cape will get a transit circle. William Simms has a good object glass; does JH know anything about it?
Forwards copy of memorial sent to all Cambridge University Commissioners by town clerk of Cambridge.
Would like the brief version of Richard Sheepshanks's paper to send to William Parsons.

Thanks JH for recommendation to R.S.L.; asks if JH can write a note so HP can continue for candidacy.
Sends duplicate of report to Parliament that JH submitted to Chancellor of Exchequer. W. T. Brande's plan to resign professorship.
Does not know how to reply to Robert Mushet's claim for compensation. Can this case be reconsidered?
Suggests putting notice of new weighing machine into JH's general report on Mint.
Will present JH's report on Mint immediately. [Parliamentary printer] Hansard will be informed that JH is responsible for all corrections. Advises including two notices in report: that Mint refinery was leased to Anthony de Rothschild, and that Mastership is no longer a Parliamentary office.
Does not know how to reply to Robert Mushet's claim for compensation for loss of succession to G. F. G. Mathison's office. No such succession was ever granted before. Returns Mushet's letter.
