The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

Is grateful for the loan of the book. Comments on some of [Alexander?] Stewart's works, especially his Gaelic ones. Queries regarding light in William Buckland's Bridgewater treatise; would like to borrow the volume if possible.
Check proofs, including first announcement of JH's 'Planetary Nebulae.' Instrument inconsistencies produce immense labor for TM and C. P. Smyth. Tempted to omit one-third of readings. Praises Smyth; happy to be rid of William Meadows. Speculates on causes of TM's and JH's headaches. Will propose that Fearon Fallows's observations be published.
Tells JH about artifact exhibition AS has set up, and about preparation for publication of some astronomical observations.
About plant seeds sent by JH from the Cape, WT having sent him some Mexican seeds in return. Halley's Comet only clearly seen on two nights.
