The Sir John Herschel Collection
The preparation of the print Calendar of the Correspondence of Sir John Herschel (Michael J. Crowe ed., David R. Dyck and James J. Kevin assoc. eds, Cambridge, England: Cambridge Univ. Press, 1998, viii + 828 pp) which was funded by the National Science Foundation, took ten years. It was accomplished by a team of seventeen professors, visiting scholars, graduate students, advanced undergraduates, and staff working at the University of Notre Dame.
The first online version of Calendar was created in 2009 by Dr Marvin Bolt and Steven Lucy, working at the Webster Institute of the Adler Planetarium, and it is that data that has now been reformatted for incorporation into Ɛpsilon.

In one of JH's letters he mentions a name of a forger; was it G. B. Libri? It would not be easy to detect a forgery.

Her husband is well again and her own health is much improved. Would be interested to know which photographs he likes best and why.

It appears that the Indian government has now approved the introduction of the metric system; JH is very upset.
Has been observing sunspots and talks about sunspot cycles; JH is glad to see that son John has been practicing observing with the spectroscope in preparation for the Indian solar eclipse [see JH's 1867-6-12].

Has heard that he has been suffering from the cramp and suggests a few remedies that he himself has found beneficial.
Sends JH poems for possible publication in a selection edited by Charles Daubeny; asks JH to identify the one which he wants in the volume.
Provides sources of information about polarization, spectroscopy and solar physics for son John, who is continuing his preparation for observing the solar eclipse [see JH's 1867-9-12].
