Considering character of Lord A. [Aberdeen?], JH and wife believe that any letter on behalf of James [C. Stewart?] should come to Lord A. from Sir J. Graham or another public figure and should describe recent events with Lord Derby. Comments on examination system in India.
Thanks for ER's help in obtaining appointment for Duncan Stewart. JH has been unable to stand up for five months; must write in supine position.
[Richard Jones?] agreed to prepare letter to Lord John [Russell?] but not to send it. Now learns that meeting is scheduled for tomorrow. Agrees with JH and [William] Empson that [Thomas] Maclear's work should be rewarded, but wants to move more deliberately.
