A French collector [Alcide d’Orbigny] has been at the Rio Negro and will probably have "taken the cream". CD’s luck with fossil bones, among them a large extinct armadillo-like animal. Describes some birds, toads, Crustacea, and other marine specimens. Nearly all plants flowering at Bahia Blanca were collected. Is sending two large casks of fossil bones by packet.

Sent JH's last letter to Sir James Graham to show him JH's feelings in the matter of transport to the Cape. Sir James replied to the effect that he would be very pleased to arrange a passage for JH. Hall feels in an awkward situation and thinks that JH should visit the Admiralty and have conversation with Sir James.
Is grateful for BH's interest over the matter of travel to the Cape. Gives his own views on the intentions of Sir James Graham. Intends to see Graham personally and thank him for his interest.
Is gratified that JH has consented to sit for his portrait. Let him know the artist he has selected and they can arrange sittings.
Sending check in payment of JH's article on Celestial Mechanism in the Quarterly Review. Would be pleased if JH would now write an article on comets.
Still worrying about planetary perturbations of Jupiter and Saturn [see GP's 1829-10-11]. Seeks advice on the matter from JH, and asks JH to make any necessary corrections on papers GP has sent.
