The Charles Darwin Collection
The Darwin Correspondence Project is publishing letters written by and to the naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–1882). Complete transcripts of letters are being made available through the Project’s website (www.darwinproject.ac.uk) after publication in the ongoing print edition of The Correspondence of Charles Darwin (Cambridge University Press 1985–). Metadata and summaries of all known letters (c. 15,000) appear in Ɛpsilon, and the full texts of available letters can also be searched, with links to the full texts.
Murray has sold 1200 copies [of Earthworms], so another printing of 500 is proposed. Has CD any corrections to send?
Will perhaps have to print off 1000 extra copies [of Earthworms]. Electros of the woodcuts are ready for the German edition.
Has sent copies [of Earthworms] to Annals & Magazine of Natural History and to Popular Science Review. If W. S. Dallas edits both, he will have two copies.
Second thousand [of Earthworms] has been exhausted and 3d is being printed. Asks CD to send corrections to the printer.

There will be no objection to the French translation or difficulty about woodcuts of Orchids.

Book [Facts and arguments for Darwin] is being bound; it is probably too late to alter lettering.
Confirms a request by CD that Murray’s supply electrotypes of Orchids at most reasonable possible price.
RC has sent a copy of the new [5th] edition of Origin.

Thinks it best for Murray’s to engrave the "Monkeys", etc. for themselves.
Has just heard that 1st volume of Dutch edition [of Descent] has been announced for 10 December. Was CD aware that the Dutch intended to publish vol. 1 by itself?
Sends title-page of Descent for approval. Asks whether CD has any idea of size of index.
Sends list of journals to be sent review copies of Descent. If CD wants to add others, they will be included. Printing of 2500 copies ordered; retail price 24s.
Encloses a letter [missing] from C. Reinwald, publisher of the French edition of Descent [1872].
Vincenzi [of Unione, Turin – publisher of Italian translation] has not yet paid the account.
