From R. F. Cooke   2 November 1869

50 a, Albemarle Street, London, W.

Nov 2 1869

My dear Sir

Mr. Murray thinks it is much better to engrave the “Monkey’s” &c for ourselves & not write to Paris, so I return the pages you left with me.1

Yours faithfully | Robt. Cooke

C. Darwin Esq

CD had intended to discuss woodcuts for Descent with John Murray during his stay in London from 1 to 9 November 1869 (see letter to John Murray, [after 18 September 1869], and CD’s ‘Journal’ (Correspondence vol. 17, Appendix II)). CD evidently left some pages of drawings with Cooke at Murray’s publishing house, probably earlier in the day on 2 November.
