I thank you very sincerely for the letter you were so good as to send to me ; the sentiments it contained were highly flattering to me and the views very instructive.
You have pointed out the analogies between the fluoric and muriatic gasses in a masterly manner. I know of but one objection to the views you propose. This is that potash seems to be formed by burning potassium in silicated fluoric[250] gas ; which seems to imply that there is some substance on it which contains oxygen.
I shall take the liberty of sending with this note my last paper on oxymuriatic gas. Receive it as a proof of my high esteem. I shall always feel gratefull for any communication with which you may be pleased to honour me.
